The Office of Enrollment Services at OSU-Cascades is seeking highly motivated Peer Mentors to help guide the OSU-Cascades community in navigating enrollment services and financial literacy. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for you to develop valuable professional skills in customer service, financial literacy, mentoring, and public speaking—all of which are highly transferable to any career field!As a Peer Mentor, you will work directly with students and families to provide one-on-one peer advising – including financial literacy , assist in workshops and presentations , and be a front-line resource for students needing assistance. You’ll gain hands-on experience that will sharpen your leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills , while helping others succeed. Paid Training for this position will take place during the spring term, including comprehensive training on enrollment services, paying for college, and financial literacy. Ongoing professional development will ensure you continue learning and improving throughout the academic year. 85% – Support Enrollment Services and Financial Literacy Initiatives :Greet visitors and answer walk-in or telephone questions from students, faculty, and staff; provide information and referrals.Support Enrollment Services projects such as communication plans, event promotions, social media, etc.Attend and participate in paid weekly meetings and trainings on general advising, financial literacy and mentoring best practices.Conduct one-on-one peer advising appointments with current and prospective students and their families on paying for college and budgeting.Deliver financial literacy presentations and workshops to the OSU-Cascades community.Help organize and facilitate financial literacy events and projects, including preparing materials and documents.10% – Team Building and Professional Development :Participate in weekly team bonding and professional development activities.Engage in ongoing training and skill-building opportunities.5% – Other Duties as Assigned :Assist with various additional tasks and projects needed by the department.Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here :
Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of studyMust meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employmentMust meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student : Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student : 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student : 12 credit hours per termGraduate student officially admitted to Graduate School : 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School : 9 credit hours per termInternational students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required QualificationsAt least one term of experience as a student or student employee at OSU-Cascades within the current academic year.Basic office skills (phone answering, scheduling, online data entry, etc.).Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and virtual workspaces (Google Suite, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.).Highly responsible and a self-starter with a willingness to learn new systems and tools.Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills .Strong attention to detail with the ability to ensure accuracy in all tasks and communications.Excellent customer service skills with a friendly, approachable attitude and a commitment to meeting customer needs and expectations.Ability to handle inquiries and resolve issues while maintaining professionalism and empathy.Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent OSU-Cascades professionally.Dependable and able to work both independently and as part of a team.Preferred (Special) Qualifications Prior experience working one-on-one with individuals or facilitating workshops is a plus.
