POSITION OVERVIEW
The Accounting Intern supports the Accounting Team through a variety of duties and projects. The position is targeted at candidates who are interested in an internship that will last for approximately one year. This is an hourly, non-exempt internship which reports to the Senior Accountant.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine duties including filing, copying documents, and sorting mail.
- Prepare items for weekly check-runs.
- Support day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions including entering and processing vendor bills, preparing payments, and posting customer invoices.
- Post journal entries, reconcile account balances, review general ledger for accuracy, and prepare financial reports during the month-end close process.
- Assist with preparation, review, and filing of IRS Form 1099s, including collecting W-9 forms, verifying vendor information, and ensuring compliance with tax reporting deadlines.
- Preform a variety of accounting and operational projects, including software research, process documentation, budgeting support, and internal system improvements as assigned.
- Participate in office administration duties as assigned.
- Prepare selected financial reports as assigned.
- Perform ad hoc projects as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Current college student enrolled at least part-time at a fully accredited four-year institution; related college coursework in accounting is required.Previous college coursework and / or professional work experience with various bookkeeping duties / computer applications, including bank reconciliations, data input, word processing, and databases.Thorough understanding of general office practices, procedures, and office equipment.Strong attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.Excellent organizational skills with ability to initiate, prioritize, follow through on projects, work independently, and be self-directed.Highest level of confidentiality must be exercised at all times.Must be able to open standard and lateral file drawers that require push / pull force.Must be able to lift / transport boxes of approximately thirty (30) pounds, stoop, bend, and climb steps and stairs.Equal Opportunity Employer / Protected Veterans / Individuals with Disabilities
