Position Summary Detox Alcohol and Drug Counselor

The Substance Use Disorder Intake / Assessment Counselor will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments and intake interviews for clients seeking treatment for substance use disorders. This position requires a compassionate and skilled professional who can evaluate client needs, develop appropriate treatment plans, and provide resources for ongoing care. The ideal candidate must possess a CADC I certification and a comprehensive understanding of ASAM levels of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Conduct initial assessments and intake interviews with clients to gather relevant information regarding their substance use history, mental health, and social circumstances.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and ensure that clients receive appropriate services.
  • Maintain accurate and condential client records in compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational policies.
  • Stay updated on best practices, developments, and trends in substance use disorder treatment.
  • Assist with crisis intervention and provide referrals to additional resources as needed.
  • Participate in regular supervision and team meetings to discuss client cases and treatment strategies.
  • Provide education and support to clients and their families regarding substance use disorders and available treatment options.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment ndings and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Minimum Associates degree in Human Services, Addiction, or a related eld is required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) levels of care.- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks eectively.
  • Strong assessment and engagement skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Procient in using electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Oce Suite
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities for substance use disorders.
  • Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of harm reduction principles and practices.
  • CADCI or NCACII certication is required.
