SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision of Information Technology management, provides high-level technical and professional expertise in planning, implementing, and managing, monitoring, troubleshooting and documenting network systems. Provides district-wide technical leadership, project management support and assistance, and resolves complex problems associated with in a multiplatform, hybrid, enterprise network environment. Performs other related duties as required.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Installs, configures, monitors, troubleshoots, and maintains district operating systems; assists in the development of a network management strategy; configures and recommends tools for a Network Operations Center; enforces network security, and administration and troubleshooting; analyzes network performance, resolves poor performance issues and makes recommendations for improvement; plans and coordinates system maintenance and establishes baselines for maintenance and security; leads cross-functional team projects and coordinates technical information with external and internal entities; develops policies, procedures, standards and documentation for District network systems; streamlines and automates redundant tasks when possible and provides preventive maintenance using system fault tolerance; performs software implementation; upgrades and tunes network environments for optimum performance; serves as a technical resource to information technology personnel; and advises staff on effective utilization of existing system resources and tools; and ensures compliance with the Districts' Volume License Agreements.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education / Experience : Any education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be :

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science;

2. Five years' experience as a Network Engineer / Administrator;

  • When Assigned to Microsoft : Possession of a Microsoft Certified IT Professional ( MCITP ) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer ( MCSE ) Certificate and five years of experience in a large enterprise environment.
  • When Assigned to Infrastructure Team : Possession of a Cisco Certified Network Professional ( CCNP ) Certificate and five years of progressively responsible IT experience in a large enterprise environment.
  • Employment standards for washoe county school district employee applicants :

    Must be able to demonstrate IT experience and :

    In SkillSoft, complete CompTIA Network+ and at least two other courses from the following list with an overall score of 80 or above :

  • CompTIA Server+
  • CompTIA Security+
  • CCNA - Routing & Switching, Collaboration, Security
  • CCNP - Routing & Switching, Collaboration, Security
  • Microsoft MCSA : Cloud, , Server , Windows 10
  • Microsoft MCTS : Active Directory, SCCM, Network Infrastructure
  • Microsoft MCSE : Mobility, Cloud Platform, Data Management
  • G Suite - Certification
  • Apple Device Management (Not offered in SkillSoft)
  • When Assigned to Microsoft :

    Knowledge of : District server operating systems including; Windows Server , Windows Server , VMware and Hyper-V. Microsoft services such as; Office , SCCM , SQL - , SharePoint - , Cloud Based Networking (Microsoft, Google, Apple), Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, ADFS / AD Premium and Cloud / On premise application management and deployment. PowerShell scripting for automation.

    Skill at : Planning, organizing, communicating, problem solving and troubleshooting; exercising judgment and initiative in analyzing Microsoft and Hyper-V servers and services and making sound recommendations and modifications; communicating effectively in writing and orally; participating in cross-functional project teams; coordinating work with schools and offices; remotely monitoring network performance; ability to work independently and / or function as a team member depending on the type of project; flexibility and adaptability to deal with changing technologies and priorities and working under pressure to meet deadlines; and interacting effectively with those contacted during work; mandatory good customer service skills; and proficiency with Office and Office .

    When Assigned to Infrastructure Team :

    Knowledge of : District network infrastructure including networking products (routers, switches, wireless, collaboration), security products (firewalls, IPS / IDS, access control systems), Unified Communications products, routing, switching, and security protocols, QOS, multicast, and virtualization products (VMWare ESX Server and Microsoft Hyper-V). Ability to analyze network traffic to determine communication problems. Ability to troubleshoot server hardware issues.

    Skill at : Planning, organizing, communicating, and troubleshooting; exercising judgment and initiative in analyzing / troubleshooting the network infrastructure and making sound recommendations and modifications while maintaining production environment integrity; managing network equipment to maximize uptime, functionality, and stability. Good customer service skills are mandatory for both internal and external customers.

    Licenses / Certificates : Possession of a valid Nevada driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the District.
