RESPONSIBILITIES :
Answers the telephone and assists with responses to inquiries
Orders items requested by other hospital departments and delivers items when received
Receives and processes requests by other departments
Monitors all recalled items via wholesaler report and documents all activities
Assists with all areas of the drug distribution system, including procuring stock, rotating stock, filling and maintaining automated dispensing units and managing expired drugs
Gathers items needed for miscellaneous requisitions, orders, crash carts, etc. to be checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing
Delivers checked medications to the nursing units
Prepackages and labels medications into unit doses from bulk supply
Teaches and assist nursing and anesthesia personnel in regard to proper ADU procedures
Maintains ADU in all aspects, customizing as needed to assure safe and efficient medication usage
Reports all needed repairs for ADU to appropriate company and verify repairs are completed
Manages charges and credits in computer system
Reports on unusual occurrences to the pharmacist
Reorders pharmacy supplies from approved vendors
Maintains pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion
Verifies and documents daily refrigerator and freezer temperature within correct range
Documents inspection of all patient care areas monthly and reviews report with area charge nurse
Maintains monthly expense report in Excel format
Assists with chart audit as directed
Performs pharmacy inventory count quarterly, or as directed
Maintains pharmacy inventory at a minimal level
Maintains professional and ethical standards by complying with laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice, using good professional judgement and exhibiting reliability and credibility
Demonstrates empathy for patients and coworkers
Trains new employees, as assigned
Maintains confidentiality and patient privacy standards set by the department as well as the hospital
Maintain a good working relationship with all levels of staff
Documents inspection of all patient care areas monthly and reviews report with area charge nurse
Coordination of mental and dexterity for sustained periods of time
Must be able to concentrate and pay close attention to detail
The ability to hear and communicate with others in a clear, understandable and professional manner on the phone and in person
Participation in hospital committees as needed
Effective organizational and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills
Other duties and special projects as assigned
