Job Description

The Director of Design & Architecture is a strategic design leader. This is a highly visible role with brand impact playing a key role in everything from concept development to construction execution — with a sharp eye on standardization, efficiency, innovation, and scalability.

In this role, you’ll guide the development of our restaurant design standards and ensure they’re applied consistently across markets. You’ll lead architectural planning for new builds, pilot forward-thinking prototypes, and push for smarter, more cost-effective construction practices. You'll also be instrumental in streamlining timelines and reducing expenses — ensuring that each new restaurant opens on time, on brand, and on budget.

This position collaborates cross-functionally with teams across the brand — aligning on design direction, supporting new market entries, and continuously improving the tools, processes, and partnerships that bring our spaces to life. You'll also oversee external architectural partners, ensuring they deliver high-quality documentation tailored to local codes and permitting needs.

Finally, as a team leader, you’ll focus on developing talent, cultivating a strong design culture, and encouraging fresh thinking across the design and architecture function.

Essential Functions :

  • Create and evolve our design standards, ensuring consistency across all locations.
  • Lead architectural planning and documentation for new restaurant builds and remodels.
  • Drive innovation through prototyping and testing new design concepts.
  • Identify strategies to lower construction and building costs without sacrificing quality.
  • Manage external architecture partners and ensure compliance with brand and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with marketing, operations, and innovation teams to align design with guest experience goals.
  • Oversee construction documentation, ensuring accuracy, code compliance, and efficiency.
  • Shorten the timeline from site approval to permit-ready plans.
  • Collect and act on feedback from internal stakeholders and brand partners.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and vision to the design & architecture team.
  • Continuously assess and refine our design playbook to keep us ahead of the curve.

Qualifications :

  • 10 years of experience in restaurant design or architecture
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional certification
  • Solid background in restaurant, retail, or hospitality design and architecture.
  • Experience managing design processes across multiple markets or regions.
  • Strong understanding of permitting, construction documents, and development timelines.
  • Proven ability to reduce cost and improve efficiency in building programs.
  • Skilled in managing internal teams and external partners.
  • Global mindset and comfort navigating cross-cultural collaboration.
  • A balance of creativity and operational thinking.
  • Things To Know About The role

  • Full time position : Monday through Friday. However, the position may require weekends and evening work, as needed.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
  • Job requires travel for up to 20-30% of the time. Overnight travel may be required, as needed.
  • The job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and e-fax.
  • When visiting restaurants, must adhere to the team member dress code and wear non-slip shoes.
