Purpose of Job

The purpose of this job is to develop, manage, coordinate, and distribute visual assets and materials across ACCGov departments for both internal and external uses.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to : developing a wide variety or visual and written content for the Communications Department and assisting with its distribution; collaborating with ACCGov departments on print and digital visual communication projects; developing and administering an organizational communications working group and training program to improve ACCGov’s visual communications efforts; developing and maintaining ACCGov visual brand and design standards and best practices for accessibility; and strategically using communication, media, photography, and other tools to create and disseminate information regarding ACCGov programs and services.

Job Related Requirements

Work Schedule : Generally 8 : 00 AM – 5 : 00 PM, Monday – Friday with some required Tuesday evening hours for assisting with Mayor and Commission broadcast operations. Week to week schedules may vary and include some extended and flexible hours based on evening and weekend responsibilities.

May be required to work on religious holidays.

May be required to work on some evenings and weekends.

May be required to work during emergency situations.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Must work cooperatively with others.

When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policyBachelor’s degree in communications, graphic design, or related program required, with three years of experience required in coordinating, training, working with, and / or leading interdepartmental or intradepartmental teams; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud programs, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Certification in two relevant Adobe Certifications or ability to obtain one certification within 12 months of hire and a second within 18 months of hire.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Supervisory experience preferred. The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Develops, maintains, and coordinates ACCGov photograph, image, QR code, and logo library across the organization. Provides items as needed to departments or outside organizations for official use. Coordinates and maintains use of a digital asset management (DAM) system across departments.

Provides graphic design services and template creation for Communications Department projects and outlets and other departments’ projects as appropriate and available.

Develops, maintains, and coordinates official ACCGov templates (i.e., presentations, letterhead, business cards, public meeting flyers) to ensure brand consistency / integrity.

Assists departments by consulting and developing graphics and user experience (UX) layout options for website pages as appropriate in conjunction with the Digital Services Coordinator.

Assists with monitoring, maintaining, and creating content for official @accgov social media outlets.

Collaborates and consults with departments regarding the development of visual assets to improve both internal and external communications and / or to promote services and programs.

Reviews and approves visual assets (print, digital imagery, etc.) produced by departments as appropriate before they are distributed to ensure brand consistency / integrity, proper technical standards, and accessibility compliance.

Coordinates interactions with ACCGov Print Shop and outside printers and consultants related to graphic design services and production processes.

Develops training experiences for departmental liaisons involved in or interested in graphic design to further their skills and provide consistent brand guidance.

Coordinates internal visual asset working group across ACCGov to continue training and discussion on an ongoing basis related to industry best practices, technical design skill development, and brand consistency / integrity.

Researches, writes, and develops content and design for print and electronic publications to communicate with internal and external audiences; works with departments to get participation from all levels of the government.

Researches and evaluates visual design-related software / service solutions for use across departments. Works with departments as appropriate to implement future design software / service solutions to ensure consistency across ACCGov in systems.

Assists with development of best practices, guidelines, policies, and standards for visual asset use. Monitors use of website, website components, printed materials, and social media to ensure adherence to these measures.

Assists with creating and monitoring the distribution of video and graphical information to ACTV and associated monitors in public spaces. Assists with developing new locations for public video monitors.

Establishes effective working relationships with ACCGov departments and staff.

Coordinates and / or participates in ACCGov cross-department teams or employee groups.

Provides customer service to residents through in-person, phone, email, and / or social media contact. Addresses, solves, or forwards complaints to appropriate departments.

Provides input and guidance on Communications Department projects, as well as other departments’ projects as appropriate.

Works with other Communications Department staff to coordinate assignments and oversight of interns.

Assists with broadcast and streaming of Mayor and Commission meetings and other meetings as needed.

Performs clerical duties related to position.

Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of the operations and functions of ACCGov, as well as federal and state laws and local codes, as they pertain to the performance of duties related to the position of Visual Communications Coordinator.

Knowledge of the elements of the graphic design and printing processes.

Knowledge of modern office procedures as required in the performance of duties.

Knowledge of and proficiency with the use of computers, current department software programs used for word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and various employee engagement related activities.

Knowledge of statistical and related mathematical analysis.

Skill and experience in gathering information and presenting written materials, reports, and documents.

Skill in delivering presentations to diverse groups.

Ability to plan and organize events, programs, educational activities, and work projects.

Ability to plan, organize, and / or prioritize daily assignments and work activities.

Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations.

Ability to compile, organize, prepare and maintain an assortment of records, reports, and information in an effective manner and according to departmental and / or governmental regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a computer, printer, calculator, telephone, copier, video equipment, overhead projector, and motor vehicle. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires : walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to move around a training facility for extended periods of time. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of light work.

Requires the ability to use the keyboard, lift, bend, push, and pull objects or materials using body parts as the position necessitates.

MANUAL DEXTERITY : Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as a computer, printer, typewriter, calculator, telephone, copier, VCR, video equipment, overhead projector, training aides, and motor vehicle. Must have average levels of eye / hand / foot coordination.

COLOR DISCRIMINATION : Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of colors.

INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT : Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions that include the ability to deal with differences in a training environment, and the ability to control a classroom setting so all class members have an opportunity to participate. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.

PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION : Requires the ability to talk and / or hear : (Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sound by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone and to speak before an audience.
