Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities :
- Investigate residential, commercial and industrial fires that may involve fire protection or life safety systems including water-based fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry and pre-action) commercial kitchen fire protection and exhaust systems, special hazard fire suppression systems (gaseous, chemical and foam systems), fire detection and alarm systems and residential smoke alarms
- Conduct field investigations and perform forensic engineering & failure / accident analysis on incidents involving various fire protection systems
- Conduct post-accident evaluations involving fire-spread and means of egress
- Consult with clients regarding applicable building and life safety codes
- Conduct unbiased investigations for various clients
- Responsible for retention and development of client relationships
- Provide technical findings and conclusions in layman's terms, both verbally and in written reports
- Support conclusions by appropriate testimony in legal proceedings
- Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
Position Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering required;Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering preferredP. E. registration or ability to obtainIAAI-CFI or CFEI certifications or ability to obtainFire Investigation experience or desire to learn a mustKnowledge of fire protection systems, building construction and relevant codesExperience with fire modeling a plusMinimum of 5 years of fire protection engineering industry experienceForensic experience / exposure a plusExceptional interpersonal, communication and writing skillsPhysical Requirements
