Tax Director

Lauterbach & Amen LLP is a well-established CPA firm specializing in governmental accounting auditing and financial services for municipalities park districts police and firefighters pension funds school districts and other units of local government. Position Summary

The Tax Director will lead the firms tax practice overseeing client engagements managing and mentoring staff and ensuring compliance with federal state and local tax regulations. Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and technical expertise in all areas of taxation with a primary focus on individual small business and nonprofit tax returns.
• Oversee and review complex tax engagements to ensure accuracy compliance and timely completion.
• Serve as the primary advisor to clients on tax planning strategies compliance requirements and opportunities for tax savings.
• Manage mentor and develop tax staff and managers through coaching training and performance feedback.
• Stay current on changes in tax law and proactively communicate implications to clients and staff.
• Work closely with firm leadership to set strategic goals for the tax practice and contribute to overall firm growth.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships ensuring exceptional service and responsiveness.
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and enhance the client experience.
• Represent the firm in community and professional settings strengthening the firms reputation and visibility.

Qualifications and Skills

CPA license required; advanced degree (MST JD or LLM in Taxation) preferred.

10 years of progressive tax experience with significant exposure to individual small business and nonprofit taxation.

Prior leadership or management experience in a public accounting firm strongly preferred.

Strong technical knowledge of federal state and local tax regulations.

Excellent communication interpersonal and relationship management skills.

Proven ability to lead teams manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality results under deadlines.

Commitment to client service and maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards.

Salary : $150000- $175000
