The Director, Engineering manages and coordinates the activities of Product, Development and Engineering team members for the development and sustainment of new owner direct & Motili technology platforms and to internal design standards. Directs and verifies test plans, test data, simulations, specifications, drawings, BOM’s, and other related documentation for product changes and new product designs. Ensures compliance with internal design standards. Confers with other departments as necessary in the review and verification of product designs. Supports first production planning and assists with production launches. Oversees the sustaining efforts for our product designs. Mentors and develops his / her team. Prepares succession and talent plans for his / her group.
Position Responsibilities may include :
- Lead our cost down initiatives that support the overall cost-down target for the business.
- Direct and guide product design based on technical knowledge and experience.
- Oversee the development and execution of Engineering development and verification testing.
- Manage resources to meet project workloads.
- Participate on cross functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
- Define project scopes and timing.
- Provide support for both manufacturing and field issues.
- Lead the creation and sustainment of DFMEA’s, test plans, and compliance testing.
- Participate in a series of independent design reviews on active projects to review & approve their design intentions.
- Oversee the creation of product design documentation including bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests.
- Support agency certifications for both safety (UL, ETL) and performance (DOE, AHRI).
- Mentor and develop team members to prepare them for greater responsibility within the organization.
- Prepare development, talent and succession plans and establishes key metrics and goals for the team.
- Participate in additional strategic projects to support ongoing business needs.

Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of mechanical design theory and practiceKnowledge of refrigeration and / or air conditioning design and applicationKnowledge of specifications and standards used in the HVAC industryAdvanced knowledge of Continuous Improvement Methodologies, Lean, Six Sigma, & 5-S best practices and applicationsProficiency with software including MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ProjectExcellent leadership skills; able to envision, develop, direct, manage, delegate responsibility and authority and drive employee engagementEffective communication skills; clearly convey and transmit verbal and written information with strong financial and business acumenAnalytical ability – able to convert data into information and effectively communicate itPriority setting & Project Management – capable of managing multiple inputs and directions to deliver resultsProblem Solving – effective elimination of root cause of problems using systematic approachHigh level of Attention to Detail, Compliance and Excellence drivenAbility to apply good Judgement, strong work Ethics and Integrity on the jobStrong Team player and ability to effectively collaborate with internal and cross-functional teamsAbility to work under pressure and able to make sound decisions and adjust to operational needs as they ariseCompetency : Experience :
15+ years of experience with software product design10+ years of direct leadership experienceEducation / Certification
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace EngineeringMS and / or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering (preferred); MBA (preferred)Six Sigma Certification strongly preferredPeople Management : Yes
