About the Role : Index Manager, Commodity

The Team : The Commodity Index Management team manages a diverse range of high-profile indices across various asset classes, including commodities, futures and derivatives.

Impact & Responsibilities : The Index Manager is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of high-profile commodity indices, ensuring accuracy and reliability across various indices. The Index Manager is tasked with preparing and delivering presentations to Index Committees. This requires an understanding of index performance, methodologies, and prevailing market trends. In addition to their primary responsibilities, the Index Manager serves as a backup for other managers within the team. This role necessitates a thorough knowledge of the entire product line to ensure seamless support and continuity of operations.

  • As an Index Manager, you will work collaboratively with a wide range of indices across global markets and must be able to analyze and implement complex index methodologies and solve non-routine problems on an on-going basis. The Index Manager is responsible for all aspects of an assigned group of indices and as part of that responsibility, makes recommendations for index calculation and presents changes to the index committee.
  • You will manage and participate in global projects with high visibility.

The Index Manager will become a subject matter expert and a back-up for the team leader.

In addition, the Index Manager will be required to :

  • Prepare and calculate S&P and Dow Jones branded indices, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of real-time and end-of-day index data to clients and end users
  • Perform analytical research to determine the composition of assigned indices, interpreting index methodologies and adjusting data in our calculation system, and adjusting the data to conform to the rules of the index.
  • Perform index rebalances by interpreting index methodology, running models and research for adds / drops, implementing changes and communicating these appropriately to clients, all with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Serve on the index committees and make presentations of original, non-routine analysis to committee in support of the indices for which the index manager is responsible.
  • Take responsibility for the management of high-profile indices, acting as an industry expert and displaying in-depth knowledge of our product lines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance index methodologies and develop innovative solutions, particularly Product Management, Client Coverage, Index Services and IT Support.
  • Work in close coordination with the technology group and production support group to further enhance our system capabilities
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines. The projects involve; requirements gathering, analytical thinking, compilation of data, and documentation
  • Must demonstrate an ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and platforms
  • Must have the ability to train new and current employees on best-practices for index management
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide guidance on client inquiries related to Commodity indices.
  • What We’re Looking For :

    Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with the desire to pursue further education and training
  • 1-3 Years of relevant experience. Understanding of global financial markets
  • Must be able to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Must have experience working with large date sets using Excel or SQL
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner
  • Superior computer skills in Excel, Word and related applications
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Advanced degree in business, math, economics, or finance or CFA program progress is strongly preferred
  • Ability to assume responsibility, work with others and manage projects
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate work done by multiple people and / or groups.
  • Experience with commodities and futures.
  • Strong understanding of how indices are used, the impact of different methodologies, and the construction of non-equity indices
  • Ability to learn S&P’s proprietary index calculation engines
  • Knowledge of vendor terminals and vendors data and analytical platforms
  • Programming skills and experience preferably in Python and VBA
