Digitization Lab Production Assistant

Job description :

The Digitization Lab Production Assistant will manage the daily lab operations, workflows, and activities to convert to digital formats a wide range of paper-based materials from the special research collections and prepare files for digital preservation. This position works with the Digitization Lab Assistant and graduate assistant, and is under the supervision of the Director of Digital Collections and Digitization.

  • Advises the director on student employee hiring. Collaborates with Digitization Lab Assistant to support lab employee scheduling, attendance, and performance. Maintains good lab team communication through meetings and other standard modes.
  • Executes digitization, quality assurance, and digital preservation processes according to established workflows. Advises and supports student employees in the performance of digitization, quality assurance, and digital preservation processes. Collaborates with the director to address complex digitization needs. Performs workflows to share files with Libraries staff and other stakeholders.
  • Monitors and reports on project work, other work, and production schedules for digital projects. Contributes to project documentation, and training and procedural documentation.
  • Responds to inquiries, requests, and other communications. Assists director and lab assistant with complex communication with Libraries teams, non-Libraries requesters, and with University and external service providers and equipment vendors.
  • Collaborates with lab assistant on scheduling, transport, and tracking of materials for digitization. Ensures safe handling of fragile and unique materials.
  • Advises on equipment and workspace needs. Collaborates with appropriate Libraries teams to ensure that hardware, software, and systems are performing optimally.

Job Requirements

Required Education : High School Diploma or GED AND :

24 months of office, clerical or administrative experience

Preferred :

Bachelor’s degree or 48 months equivalent experience

Skills :

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with end-users at varying technological skill levels.
  • Effective supervisory skills.
  • Ability to build and sustain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Current office technology skills including experience with spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Ability to readily learn and use technology and software.
