Description
About the Team :
The WSJ Opinion section has long served as a forum for intelligent, values-driven commentary, dedicated to advocating a consistent philosophy that can be summed up as 'free markets, free people.' While we aim to persuade, every word we publish is the product of rigorous reporting, research and debate. WSJ Opinion offers sharp, original analysis and strong points of view on the news of the day. This role is central to translating that voice for a visual-first, social-native audience.
About the Role
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a versatile social and podcast video editor to help bring WSJ Opinion's journalism to life through video. You will focus on adapting our podcasts into full-length vodcasts for YouTube and on-platform viewing, while also producing vertical video — both social-first clips drawn from those vodcasts and original, talent-led segments designed to drive discovery and engagement on platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Snapchat and WSJ.com. This role involves not just technical video editing skills but also a strong understanding of social media trends and audience engagement.
As part of our social media team, you will work directly with editorial board members, writers and editors around the Opinion newsroom, as well as our video and audio teams, to produce compelling social video that showcases the best of WSJ Opinion for new and existing audiences. You will be involved in all steps of production : conceptualization, scripting, shooting, editing / post-production and distributing. You will be responsible for implementing visually compelling post-production techniques, including motion graphics, multi-camera editing, and on-screen text. Additionally, you will manage metadata optimization, such as selecting titles, thumbnails, and compelling captions to maximize reach and engagement.
You should be a self-starter who understands the needs of audiences across multiple platforms and is able to work independently under deadline pressure. Dedication to high journalism standards and excellent video editing skills are required. You should have experience with video editing software, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe InDesign and / or other relevant tools. Animation skills are a plus. We ask that you have a deep knowledge of visual-first social media platforms and an ability to closely monitor trends to guide visual strategy forward. Understanding the nuances of different platforms is essential in order to tailor content accordingly. You will also be comfortable distilling reporting into digestible bites for potential new audiences.
