Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Plan and provide intervention that is appropriate and consistent with speech / language goals contained in the individual education plan (IEP) under the direction of the licensed supervisor
  • Gather data with individual students, as well as, the overall program and participate in determining student progress to support the supervising SLP to make data-based decisions and monitor student outcomes
  • Conduct or participate in speech / language screening with the appropriate training
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom based activities to improve functional communication, oral and / or written language skills of students under the direction of the licensed supervisor

Compliance

  • Comply with and meet federal and state mandates and local board policy
  • Compile, maintain, and file / submit all reports, records, and other documents as required and under the direction of the supervisor
  • Administer routine tests, if assistant has been appropriately trained and the assessments are conducted under the direction of the supervisor
  • Administrative Support

  • Support clinical services provided by the speech-language pathologist
  • Complete routine paperwork, schedule meetings, maintain clinical records and prepare clinical materials
  • Participate in Annual Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings if : a) meets requirements set forth by licensing board and b) is approved by licensed supervisor
  • Engage in continuing education experiences and professional development to enhance the skills / knowledge necessary to serve a diverse student body as designated and supervised by the licensed SLP
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis on communicative sciences and disorders or related area
  • Texas Licensure as Assistant in Speech-Language Pathology
  • A minimum of 24 hours in Speech-Language Pathology and / or Audiology, at least 18 of which are in Speech-Language Pathology
  • A minimum of 25 hours of clinical observation and 25 hours of clinical assisting experience
  • Proficiency in Windows Operating System as well as Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills both verbally and in writing

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
