Role : Unix / Linux Administrator

Location : NYC, NY

EXP : 6-8+ Years

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced Unix / Linux Systems Administrator to manage and maintain Oracle Unix / Linux infrastructure systems in a mission-critical enterprise environment. The successful candidate will work closely with Oracle DBAs, WebLogic Administrators, and Application teams to ensure the stability, security, and performance of large-scale infrastructure platforms.

Key Responsibilities

System Administration & Infrastructure Support

Install, configure, secure, and maintain Linux / Unix servers, storage, and Oracle appliances.

Administer and troubleshoot Oracle RAC clusters, Exadata, and HA / clustered environments .

Monitor system resource utilization, analyze performance, and implement OS / application tuning.

Evaluate new systems / applications for compatibility and performance with the OS environment.

Patch Management & Security

Develop and implement patching strategies, including security updates and OS upgrades.

Collaborate with the Network Security team to apply security policies, intrusion detection, and vulnerability remediation.

Ensure compliance with established Change Management processes.

Disaster Recovery & Backup Management

Maintain and test disaster recovery configurations for Unix / Linux and Oracle RAC systems.

Perform backup and recovery operations using Symantec NetBackup and Veeam .

Keep DR documentation and procedures up-to-date.

Automation & Operations

Write and maintain Shell scripts (bash, ksh, sh) for automation and monitoring.

Configure and monitor batch jobs and system alerts for 24x7 uptime.

Respond to Service Desk tickets, troubleshoot system incidents, and provide timely root-cause resolution.

Collaboration & Support

Partner with DBAs and Application Administrators to integrate databases / applications with OS environments.

Liaise with Oracle and other vendors for escalations, troubleshooting, and patch / fix implementations.

Provide technical training and knowledge transfer to junior team members.

Required Qualifications

6–8 years of hands-on experience as a Unix / Linux Systems Administrator in large-scale enterprise environments.

Strong expertise in :

Operating Systems : Oracle Linux, Solaris (LDOMs, Zones), ZFS.

Oracle RAC : Installation, configuration, troubleshooting, ASM, OCFS.

Oracle Infrastructure : Exadata, Oracle Application Server, WebLogic, Oracle RDBMS.

Virtualization & Storage : LDOMs, Zones / Containers, Oracle SAN, VMware / KVM.

Networking : TCP / IP, SMTP, SNMP, SSL, SFTP, HTTP, NIS, DNS, NFS, LDAP, SSH, Sendmail.

Backup & Recovery : Symantec NetBackup, Veeam.

Proficiency in Shell scripting for automation and monitoring.

Experience with hybrid cloud environments ( AWS, Azure ) preferred.

Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and customer service mindset.

Ability to work independently or within teams in high-pressure environments.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Skills

Experience with observability tools (Splunk, AppDynamics, PagerDuty, Turbonomic).

Familiarity with container platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift).
