Dearman Systems is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Accountant to join our growing team in a hybrid role (3 days in-office, 2 days work from home) based in Houston, Texas. This is a full-time position offering significant potential for growth and involvement in diverse projects. We are looking for a candidate who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and is eager to take on challenges across multiple functions, including accounting, accounts receivable, human resources, and office management.

This role reports directly to the Controller and will play an important role in scaling our financial operations as the company continues to expand. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

About the Role

As a Accountant, you will work closely with the Controller to manage all aspects of accounting. Your primary responsibilities will include month-end close, payroll administration, accounts receivable and payable management, and tax reporting. In addition, you will support office management functions and act as an HR liaison.

The ability and willingness to communicate via email and phone with customers for invoice collection is critical. Additionally, you will also have the opportunity to assist in preparing financial reports for investors including financial forecasts and board meeting materials.

Key Responsibilities :

AR BILLINGS (Daily) : Manage daily invoicing to ensure timely payments

PROJECT BILLINGS : Coordinate with the Controller and project managers to oversee project progress and prepare progress invoices as needed

TREASURY / CASH MANAGEMENT : Manage all bank accounts and ledgers, ensuring deposits, transfers, checks, and wires are completed in a timely manner

REPORTING SUPPORT : Assist in preparing revenue / expense reports, income statements, balance sheets, and other deliverables for investors

CUSTOMER VENDOR REGISTRATION : Complete vendor registration and verification requests

OFFICE MANAGEMENT : Oversee office management for Houston, Texas and Tucson, Arizona locations, including coordinating with property managers and maintaining supplies

MONTH-END CLOSE : Support the Controller in monthly close process, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and credit card reconciliations

BUDGETING / FORECASTING : Assist with the annual budget process and periodic reforecasts

PAYROLL ADMINISTRATION : Prepare payroll for review by the Controller

EXPENSE REPORTING : Reconcile receipts to bank and credit card accounts in QuickBooks Online

TAX ADMINISTRATION : Manage state tax registration through a third-party agency, ensure all state payroll taxes are reported and paid, and coordinate with external tax preparers for year-end filings

HR LIAISON : Manage employee onboarding and offboarding processes, including healthcare plan enrollment and payroll setup. Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and work on initiatives to improve the workplace environment

GROWTH POTENTIAL : Work directly with the Controller on strategic financial initiatives

Qualifications :

2-5 years of accounting experience (experience in public accounting preferred but not required)

Advanced Excel skills are required, including complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis

Existing knowledge or willingness to learn accounting and payroll software (Maxio, Quickbooks Online, Rippling)

Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written. For internal and external matters

Resourceful and hardworking, with a proven ability to solve problems independently and manage multiple priorities effectively

CPA preferred

Ability to work in our Houston office at least 3 days a week

Ability to work 40-50 hours per week
