Medical Billing Specialist

Location : On-site (first 6 months), then hybrid | ⏰ Schedule : Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm MST

Pay : $20-$25 / hour

Overview

We are seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join our team! This role focuses on insurance follow-up, filing appeals, resolving denials, and providing support to patients with billing inquiries. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, patient-focused, and skilled in navigating the back end of claims processing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to gain a clear understanding of each claim and take steps to resolve issues.

Research and analyze denied or incorrectly processed claims; prepare and submit appeals as needed.

Review outstanding insurance claims; follow up via calls or payer websites to determine claim status.

Submit accurate and timely documents for primary and / or secondary claims to ensure fast processing and payment.

Review unapplied credit reports for patient and insurance overpayments; apply credits or prepare refund requests for management approval.

Answer inbound patient calls regarding billing questions with professionalism and empathy.

Accurately document all activity on patient accounts to maintain complete and up-to-date records.

Perform additional duties as assigned by management or physicians.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of medical billing processes, including appeals and denials.

Professional communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to provide excellent telephone support.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate support for organizational values.

Strong team player who accepts feedback and is accountable for individual and departmental goals.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and medical billing software ( Intergy preferred ).

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

2+ years of experience in medical billing and collections.

Ability to interact effectively with patients, peers, physicians, and management in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Office-based role requiring use of standard office equipment and computer systems.

Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers for typing and data entry.

Close visual acuity required for reading, analyzing data, and computer work.

Ability to walk short distances as needed in an office environment.
