We are seeking a Data Governance and Compliance Manager to lead the development and implementation of an organization-wide data governance framework. In this role, you’ll help eliminate data silos, ensure regulatory compliance, and improve decision-making across departments. This is a strategic position that requires cross-functional collaboration, policy development, and hands-on implementation.
Responsibilities
Data Governance & Strategy
- Develop and implement a organization-wide data governance framework.
- Define roles and responsibilities for data stewardship across departments.
- Lead the formation and operation of a Data Governance Committee.
- Create and maintain a data taxonomy, RACI models, and policy documentation.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure alignment with data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, CJIS, etc.).Prepare for and support internal and external data audits.Conduct semi-annual compliance risk assessments and mitigation planning.Data Quality & Lifecycle
Establish standards for data classification, access, and retention.Build procedures for data cleansing, validation, archival, and disposal.Create data lineage maps and inventory across city systems.Training & Capacity Building
Design and deliver internal training on data governance and compliance best practices.Raise awareness through workshops, documentation, and cross-functional sessions.Cross-Functional Collaboration
Serve as a liaison between IT, legal, operations, and business departments.Ensure integration of data governance policies into system procurement and implementation.Requirements
Proven experience in data governance, compliance, or data management (5+ years preferred)Strong knowledge of data privacy laws and industry standardsExperience implementing governance frameworks, RACI models, and policiesFamiliarity with data classification tools, catalogs, and analytics platformsExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsBachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Compliance, or related field (Master’s preferred)Certifications such as CDMP, CIPP, or DGSP a plus
