GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Survey Section Manager, this position performs highly complex (senior-level) surveying and mapping work. Responsible for assisting the Survey Section Manager in specialized survey work, it includes assembling, interpreting, and analyzing survey record and field data, to create an effective workflow between field and office survey functions. Responsibilities include performing complex mathematical analysis, evaluating survey data, and creating cad drawings of record data for field use, creating finished cad drawings and legal descriptions of surveys, overseeing and scheduling the maintenance and calibration of survey field equipment, assisting in the development, coordination and reporting of project priorities, scopes, and schedules with other branches and divisions, including both in-house and outsourced blanket firm surveys. Requires using GPS, total station, aerial drone, terrestrial scanner, and other surveying equipment to independently collect data, and process lidar and conventional field data into finished cad file surveys and assisting field crews as needed. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Perform additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience :

Three years experience in the use of Trimble, Leica, or similar GPS and total station surveying equipment.

One year experience in the use of aerial and terrestrial lidar and photogrammetric equipment.

Three years experience in the use of Carlson Survey or AutoCAD / Civil3D surveying software.

Three years experience in use of Trimble, Carlson, Leica, or similar data collection equipment.

NOTE : Experience may have occurred concurrently.

Licensure :

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license

Must possess a current FAA Remote Pilot Certificate.

Must possess current Surveyor in Training (SIT) status through the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying.

NOTE : Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required license and SIT status.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying Technology.

Experience :

Six years experience in the use of Trimble and / or Leica GPS and total station surveying equipment.

Three years experience in the use of aerial and terrestrial lidar scanning and photogrammetry equipment.

Six years experience in the use of Carlson Survey, AutoCAD, Civil3D and GIS software.

Six years experience in the use of Trimble, Carlson, and / or Leica data collection equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations relevant to surveying practice and resource protection.

Knowledge of professional surveying principles, practices and instruments used in land surveying.

Knowledge of the Texas State Plane Coordinate System.

Knowledge of planning and organizing the activities of a survey crew for boundary and project surveys.

Knowledge of lidar and photogrammetry technology and applications.

Knowledge of GPS and GIS mapping.

Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

Skill in interpreting, understanding and effectively using survey related information from maps and field books.

Skill in the use of CAD and coordinate geometry software to produce quality survey mapping products.

Skill in computing data using coordinate geometry, algebra or trigonometry.

Skill in assuring / verifying the accuracy of survey data and its recording.

Skill in aerial drone photogrammetry and terrestrial scanning equipment operation.

Skill in collecting and processing Total Station and GPS data.

Skill in managing several projects simultaneously.

Ability to effectively collect and process survey data using applicable software.

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Ability to interpret, understand and effectively use survey related information from maps and field books.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

Ability to conduct work activity in accordance with TPWD safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Required to work from 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Required to often perform outdoors, at times in adverse weather conditions.

Will be required to operate a State vehicle.

Required to travel 25% with possible overnight stays.

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
