    Job Summary and Qualifications

    As a Neonatal Milk Lab Technician, you will be responsible for preparation and distribution of human milk, formula feedings and maintaining milk lab records. You will be responsible for performing inventory control and ordering supplies through Smart Procurement, and cleaning NICU equipment (i.e. Giraffe beds). This is done in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of North Austin Medical Center.

  • You will participate in the unit-based Quality Improvement process.
  • You will organize and communicate patient care activities to the patient and to the Registered Nurse.
  • You will complete, execute and perform the preparation, labeling and distribution of human milk (both exclusive breast milk and donor breast milk) using aseptic technique.
  • You will order, maintain sufficient inventory, and stocks supplies for the unit through use of Smart Procurement.
  • You will demonstrate ability to disinfect and clean NICU equipment, such as Giraffe beds, Panda warmers and cribs.
  • You will demonstrate an understanding of patient’s charts, physician orders and nursing orders.
  • You will follow established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm.
  • You will transport emergently needed medications from the pharmacy to the nursing staff, with the exception of narcotics.
  • What qualifications you will need :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • year of experience in food service in a healthcare setting – preferred
  • BLS certification as per SDH policy
