Our client, a leading global commodities trading firm, is seeking a senior leader to head their Contracts function across their waterborne trading business.
This is a high-impact role within a dynamic and entrepreneurial trading environment, where you will be responsible for overseeing, optimizing, and leading all aspects of contracts management. The successful candidate will work closely with traders, operations, legal, compliance, and risk teams to ensure commercial contracts are executed seamlessly, accurately, and in line with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead the contracts function for the trading business, with a focus on waterborne commodities.
- Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of complex physical trading contracts, including charter parties, sales agreements, and related documentation.
- Act as a senior partner to traders and operators, ensuring contracts align with commercial intent while minimizing risk exposure.
- Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing contracts team across regions.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, and risk functions to ensure alignment with internal policies and external regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement in contracts processes, systems, and controls to support business growth.
Key Qualifications :
Extensive experience in contracts management within physical commodities trading (oil, refined products, LNG, metals, or similar waterborne products).Proven leadership track record managing contracts teams in a fast-paced trading environment.Strong knowledge of international trade law, Incoterms, and shipping documentation.Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.Detail-oriented with a strong commercial mindset and ability to balance risk with business objectives.
