CNC Lathe Machinist – 1st Shift

Location : Hampton, VA

Pay Range : $24–$40 / hour (dependent on experience and skill set)

Schedule : Full-Time | First Shift

Advex Corporation is seeking a skilled and motivated CNC Lathe Machinist to join our team supporting US Navy and marine manufacturing programs. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a job shop environment, enjoys low-volume, high-complexity work, and values precision and teamwork. The top end of the pay scale is reserved for candidates with programming and / or wire EDM experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC lathes with Fanuc, Okuma, or Haas controls
  • Set up workpieces with and without fixturing
  • Select and set up appropriate cutting tools
  • Interpret G-code and perform basic manual edits / programming as needed
  • Work collaboratively in a dynamic environment where parts move through multiple work centers
  • Operate or be willing to learn to operate Wire EDM machines as required

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience operating CNC lathes (Fanuc, Okuma, or Haas)
  • Setup experience with both fixtured and non-fixtured workpieces
  • Cutting tool knowledge and hands-on setup capability
  • Understanding of G-code and ability to make minor manual edits

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • CAM software programming experience (Siemens NX is a plus)
  • Experience with live milling operations, including Y-axis functionality
  • Wire EDM experience
  • Interest or ability to grow into a Lead Machinist role for the Turning Center

    • Employment Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Person status (U.S. Citizenship required due to government contracts)
  • No felony convictions for Theft / Deception or Violent Crimes within 7 years
  • No felony Drug convictions within 3 years
  • Willing to undergo a background check and drug screening

    • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. independently and 100 lbs. with assistance
  • Stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for 8–10 hours
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, industrial environment with varying temperatures and loud machinery
  • Frequent handling of tools, components, and metal parts
