Day to Day :
The Data Center Build Engineering Team is responsible for designing and constructing physical data center infrastructure to support cloud services across various global regions. This role requires deep expertise in Layer 1 networking, data center facilities (including power and cooling systems), structured cabling solutions, and vendor management. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record in building or supporting low-voltage infrastructure within physical data centers. As a Data Center Build Engineer, you will collaborate closely with internal development teams and external vendors to build, maintain, and continuously improve cloud infrastructure. Key Responsibilities :
- Lead implementation and support for new and existing data center builds
- Manage onsite vendors to ensure timely infrastructure delivery
- Develop and maintain documentation for cabling and build standards
- Review Bill Of Materials and define project scope for vendor quoting and selection
- Design and deploy structured cabling solutions for new builds and expansions
- Oversee multiple concurrent projects with a focus on scalable, repeatable outcomes
- Collaborate with Program Management and stakeholders to meet project milestones
- Conduct vendor bidding, selection, and quarterly business reviews
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues across cabling infrastructure, including patch panels and cords
Must Haves :
Proven experience in vendor management including RFI / RFQ / RFP development and on-site coordination of cabling installationsExtensive experience with Layer 1 physical cabling and troubleshooting connectionsExperience planning and installing data center white space infrastructure, including racks, cabling, power, and cooling systemsStrong understanding of network cabling, fiber optic types, and transceiverExtensive experience in designing and deploying end-to-end physical cabling systems within data center environments, including structured cabling, pathway design, and infrastructure layoutExperience using fiber optic test equipment, including VFL, power meter, and OTDRThorough understanding of Cat 5, Cat 6, and OM1–OS2 fiber optic cabling systemsKnowledge of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure in data center and colocation environments
