Production Operator
The Production Operator is responsible for monitoring the performance of the autocatcher and clearing all jams promptly to ensure process and production efficiency. Additionally, the Production Operator is responsible for performing shingle quality checks, including dimensions and appearance, to ensure they meet product specifications and communicating any problems to the appropriate individuals.
The Production Operator is a key contributor to the continuous improvements of critical plant performance metrics in the areas of safety, productivity, cost, quality, and sustainability. This role is essential to the successful operations of the Savannah Roofing site. The Production Operator is an hourly position reporting to the Operations Front Line Leader.
Job Responsibilities
- Lives the Owens Corning Safety Stand and meets all safety requirements.
- Participates in the safety, autonomous maintenance, TPM and housekeeping programs as established within the plant.
- Performs job tasks to reduce environmental impact and adheres to the environmental regulations and recycling procedures for waste disposal.
- Complies with all plant rules and safety regulations.
- Communicates safety concerns and / or equipment problems / abnormalities to appropriate personnel.
- Notify your Front Line Leader immediately of all injuries, near misses, or first aid.
- Operates accumulating conveyor, timing rolls and kick off rolls and maintains a continuous flow of product.
- Cleans electric eyes, skid plates and reflectors to maintain proper catching, conveying and staging.
- Performs cleanup duties at workstations, etc. Scrapes off any build up.
- Monitors lines to maintain the flow of materials.
- Inspects finished product for visual defects, press variation, color uniformity, sealant amount, location, release tape location, shadow lines and dimensions every 15 minutes or as required. Ensures proper documentation is completed for product quality.
- Ensures quality specifications and notifies Quality Tech, Shingle Maching Operator, Front End Relief, and Front Line Leader of non-standard material.
- Maintains strong communication with appropriate line section operators to ensure immediate action is taken for product out of spec.
- Removes all off-quality shingles from the production line. Notifies shingle machine operator, wrapping attendant and quality technician.
- Salvages and prepares seconds for shipment. Evaluates and records defects and weight.
- Ensures bundles are stacked properly exiting autocatchers and proper count of each bundle.
- Assists in identifying root cause and resolving quality issues.
- Clears jams safely and efficiently.
- Clears any bundles that fall off pallets and places them in designated seconds / re-wrap areas.
- Monitors alignment on A & B lanes.
- Cleans out laminate pan at least every 20 minutes.
- Operates forklift. Performs operator inspection of forklift on each shift. Completes daily vehicle inspection forms.
- Assists Wrapper Operator in clearing jams as needed.
- Assists Wrapper Operator when splice is made on rolls of wrap.
- Completes appropriate paperwork and reports.
- Assists in root cause analysis of jams.
- Assists in repairing line breaks and lacing-up the mat.
- Assists in all startup and shutdown duties.
- Establishes goals, prioritizes and organizes actions, timelines and resources.
- Understands the needs of the customer and takes action to address those needs.
- Identifies and participates proactively in learning opportunities, and develops expertise in those areas.
- Ensures standard operating procedures and processes are in place.
- Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of this position, as directed by the area leader.
