Position Overview

Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Mechanical Engineer applies mechanical theory to design and specify HVAC systems and processes. Responsibilities include completing energy code compliance documentation and energy analyses, participating in coordination meetings with design teams and clients, corresponding with vendors and contractors, performing site surveys, observing construction projects, editing specifications, and reviewing submittals.

Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrate knowledge of HVAC systems and RE Dimond specifications.

Coordinate clearances and fit for all MEPT systems.

Calculate HVAC load estimates for various spaces, buildings, and processes.

Conduct site surveys and prepare related reports and studies.

Prepare construction cost estimates.

Design air distribution systems :

Ductwork design, layout, and sizing

Selection of grilles, registers, and diffusers

Central air handling unit and terminal unit selections

Design hydronic, steam, and refrigeration systems :

Piping design, layout, and sizing

Central plant and equipment selections

Design and specify building automation control systems.

Complete continuing education requirements to maintain licensure.

Be proficient with applicable codes and standards, including :

International Building Code (IBC)

International Mechanical Code (IMC)

ASHRAE

NFPA

Be proficient in or actively learning Revit.

Qualifications

Mechanical Engineer I

Graduate of an ABET-accredited engineering program or

Engineer Intern license

Mechanical Engineer II

Professional Engineer (PE) license

Mechanical Engineer III

Professional Engineer (PE) license

Minimum of 10 years of verifiable work experience

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in a standard office environment.

Travel to client meetings is required.

Travel to project sites for documentation of existing conditions is required.

Travel to construction sites to observe and document construction progress is required.

Compliance with client and site-specific safety protocols is mandatory :

May require use of PPE, including hard hats, safety toe shoes, hi-visibility vests, ear and eye protection.

Occasional evening and weekend work required.

Occasional overnight travel required.
