Contract Designer / Drafter – Autodesk Inventor

Location : Ashland, VA (Onsite work preferred)

Industry : Custom Industrial Machinery

Pay Rate : $30 – $40 / hour (Contract Position)

We are seeking a skilled Designer / Drafter with strong experience using Autodesk Inventor to support custom industrial machinery design for our client in Ashland, VA. This is a contract position offering competitive hourly compensation and the opportunity to contribute to innovative, highly engineered manufacturing solutions. Onsite work is preferred to enable close collaboration with engineering and fabrication teams.

Key Responsibilities

Create detailed production drawings from existing Inventor models.

Develop and modify 3D CAD models and technical drawings for custom machinery and components.

Collaborate with engineers to interpret and execute design specifications.

Utilize Autodesk Inventor to produce accurate, high-quality designs and documentation.

Nice to have) Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural integrity under real-world conditions.

Review designs for compliance with applicable industry standards and manufacturing practices.

Support prototype assembly processes and provide feedback for design refinement.

Maintain well-organized design files, revision histories, and project records.

Required Qualifications

Proven experience in a CAD Designer / Drafter role within custom machining, metal fabrication, or industrial machinery environments.

Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling software.

Strong understanding of precision machining and fabrication processes.

Familiarity with relevant industry codes and mechanical design standards.

Excellent attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based, project-driven environment.
