Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Class A Lineman with power distribution expertise to join our team in Austin, Texas. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintaining and repairing overhead and underground power distribution systems, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work in various weather conditions. A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record is required due to the operation of heavy equipment and vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power distribution lines and systems.
- Install, inspect, and replace power lines, poles, transformers, insulators, and related electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults, outages, and power quality issues in distribution systems.
- Perform live-line work (hot sticking or rubber gloving) and de-energized line maintenance as required.
- Operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams to plan and execute work.
- Adhere to all safety standards, including OSHA, ANSI, and company safety protocols.
- Respond to emergency calls for power outages, storm restoration, and other critical situations in the Austin & surrounding areas.
- Collaborate with crew members, engineers, and supervisors to complete projects on time and within specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on tasks.
Qualifications
Education : High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a recognized lineman apprenticeship program required.
Experience : Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Journeyman Lineman with a focus on power distribution systems.
Licenses : Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record (required).
Skills and Abilities :
In-depth knowledge of power distribution systems, including overhead and underground infrastructure.Proficiency in using tools and equipment such as hot sticks, crimpers, and hydraulic tools.Strong understanding of electrical theory and distribution system operations.Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and teamwork skills for coordination with crew and supervisors.Physical Requirements : Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, climb poles, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
Availability : Willingness to work on-call shifts, weekends, and overtime, including emergency response during storms or outages.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in urban environments, such as Austin, with high-density power distribution systems.Familiarity with local utility standards and regulations.Certification in pole-top rescue, bucket truck operation, or other relevant safety training.
