Researcher 1 Histology / Pathology - Department of Neuroscience

This position is in a laboratory of Dr. Michael Lee who is interested in defining the pathologic mechanisms for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and Parkinson's Disease (PD) using cellular and transgenic mouse models. The candidate will assist the Principal Investigator by performing duties related to characterizing neuropathology in animal models.

Job duties include :

  • Aid and / or perform histological analysis of mouse brain.
  • Perform euthanasia and fixation of mouse brain.
  • Prepare fixed brain for frozen or paraffin sections.
  • Perform paraffin embedding of tissues and generate paraffin sections.
  • Generate frozen sections on sliding microtome for stereological analysis.
  • Perform histochemical and immunohistochemical analysis.
  • Aid and / or perform quantitative analysis of stained sections.
  • Perform whole slide scanning using Motic Slide Scanner of stained slides for analysis.
  • Learn and perform quantitative analysis of stained slides using Image J and / or HALO image analysis system.
  • Learn and perform quantitative analysis using Microbrightfield Stereology system.
  • Aid in the mouse colony.
  • Aid other lab members with general mouse husbandry, behavioral analysis, pharmaceutical treatment(s), and mouse brain dissections for biochemical analysis.
  • Prepare weekly progress to present at weekly lab meetings.

Qualifications :

  • All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
  • Required Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience or related field (e.g. Biology, Psychology) or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.
  • Must be willing to work with mouse model of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's Disease.
  • Preferred Qualifications :
  • Certification in scientific or medical histology.
  • Prior experience in histological analysis, particularly rodent brains.
  • Familiarity with Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.

    Pay and Benefits :

    Pay Range : $21.63 / hour ($45,000 annually) to $23.00 / hour ($47,840 annually); depending on education / qualifications / experience

    Time Appointment : 75%-100% Appointment Position Type : Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
