Nurse Practitioner

The Nurse Practitioner provides clinical expertise, medical care, administrative services, and leadership to the staff in the medical clinic of the Durango Detention Center.

The Juvenile Probation Department of the Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County is dedicated to providing innovative and efficient juvenile justice services grounded in evidenced-based practices and research. Position Qualifications

We recognize your time is valuable, so please apply if you meet the following required qualifications :

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited school of Nursing and an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a valid unrestricted license to practice issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
  • Board Certification in Advanced Nursing Practice from The American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as a Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner. Arizona Registered Nurse & Advanced Practice License.

Knowledge of : State Laws, regulations and statutes that govern health care services and scope of practice as well as OSHA standards and safety practices.

Skill in : Implementing effective healthcare practices and the delivery of current standards.

Ability to : Supervise and mentor staff, reward performance, address deficiencies and resolve conflict. Effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Treat all patients, inmates, and co-workers fairly with dignity and respect. Preserve and protect patient rights and confidentiality.

Essential Job Tasks

  • Provides medical evaluations, consultation, and treatment of patients through age 19, including the prescribing of medications.
  • Assists treatment team in developing goals and objectives for Special Needs Treatment Plan.
  • Supervises staff - develops performance plans, conducts evaluations, provides feedback, and assists with staff development, assists with disciplinary measures and corrective action plans.
  • Participates in the development of patient services data and document encounters according to the Departmental procedures.
  • Prepares reports and referral information for the Courts and other outside providers as necessary.
  • Participates in peer review, in-service training, quality improvement processes, and other meetings necessary to improve patient care.
  • Maintains applicable licensure and skills according to the requirements by State law, Departmental Policies, and licensure agencies.
  • Be on call weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Detention Medical Director or other designee.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to communicate clearly, perceive details of objects that are close by, and maintain various physical positions for extended periods, such as sitting, standing, or walking. The job may involve using hands for tasks such as typing, handling objects, or operating tools, as well as reaching with hands and arms. Occasionally, the employee may be required to move or lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
