General Description

The Security-Door Attendant holds a critical position within the team, responsible for delivering superior service and cultivating a hospitable and inclusive atmosphere. As the first point of contact for most guests, the attendant engages guests of diverse backgrounds, ensuring each individual feels sincerely welcomed and valued. Beyond hospitality, the role is instrumental in safeguarding the well-being and security of guests, staff, and property. This role requires an individual with the versatility and commitment to doing it all—delivering five-star hospitality, maintaining vigilant security, and assisting with bell and door services. The ideal candidate thrives in lateral service and is able to move seamlessly between responsibilities. They’re capable of self-management when working independently, and consistently uphold the highest standards of guest care and safety. They are able to balance guest security with hospitality by respectfully gathering necessary information, maintaining strong situational awareness to identify and de-escalate potential risks, and ensure guest privacy is respected.

Job Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Manage guest flow at entrances and in the lobby, ensuring a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment while verifying access and enforcing hotel policies.
  • Assist guests with arrivals, departures, directions, luggage handling, and miscellaneous requests, providing seamless and attentive service.
  • Collaborate with front desk, bell attendants, housekeeping, and management to maintain security, guest satisfaction, and smooth daily operations.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of hotel policies, procedures, and emergency protocols to respond effectively to routine and urgent situations.
  • Exercise sound judgment and self-management, often operating independently as the sole security presence on shift.
  • Demonstrate strong situational awareness—effectively screen individuals, identify concerning behaviors or potential risks, and take proactive measures to prevent escalation.
  • Exhibit excellent de-escalation skills, quickly diffusing conflicts, calming tense situations, and restoring order while maintaining guest dignity and building safety.
  • Communicate observations clearly and promptly to management and team members to mitigate potential issues before they occur.
  • Execute lateral service by stepping into various guest-facing and operational roles as needed, ensuring the guest experience remains seamless in a high-volume environment and during unexpected situations.
  • Accurately document and categorize incidents ranging from guest disturbances to medical emergencies, ensuring reports are detailed, objective, and compliant with hotel standards.

Position Skills & Requirements

  • Minimum two years’ experience in a luxury hotel or condominium as a concierge / security / door hybrid role.
  • Flexible schedule with open availability : weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong knowledge of Williamsburg and greater NYC dining, shopping, cultural attractions, and transportation options (subway, ferry, etc.).
  • Ability to self-manage and remain composed when working independently.
  • Ability to multi-task while remaining calm and composed.
  • Team-oriented, dependable, and proactive.
  • Must be able to stand for the entirety of shift (minimum 10 hours) and lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Professional presentation, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Additional Qualifications (not required)

  • Valid NYS Security Guard License (“guard card”).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with 2-way radio systems.
