Job Description
Job Description
License Requirement : Active California Structural Engineer License (Mandatory)
We are seeking a California-licensed Structural Engineer for a remote Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA / QC) role. The sole requirement is an active and valid California Structural Engineer license. Candidates without this license will not be considered.
Role Overview :
You will collaborate with the Engineer of Record, John Johnson, who prepares structural engineering calculations and drawings for mechanical components and their supports, as well as anchorage for those components. Your primary responsibility is to review these plans and calculations, providing recommendations for updates or adjustments if you identify deficiencies or areas for improvement. The calculations and drawings are typically standardized, repetitive, and based on templates pre-approved by jurisdictions hundreds of times, making the review process straightforward and consistent.
Key Responsibilities :
Review structural calculations and drawings prepared by the Engineer of Record.
Provide recommendations for updates or adjustments to ensure compliance and quality.
Sign and seal plans and calculations alongside the Engineer of Record (also a licensed California Structural Engineer).
Occasionally participate in Zoom or Teams meetings with approving jurisdictions (though existing staff and the Engineer of Record typically handle these).
Project Details :
Projects include standard new construction (no local jurisdiction approval required) and projects requiring approval by DSA or HCAI / OSHPD.
Reviews are typically for one project per week, with additional compensation for extra reviews.
Calculations and drawings are repetitive, cookie-cutter designs, minimizing the complexity of reviews.
Compensation :
Base Salary : $1,000 / month for reviewing one project per week.
Additional Reviews :
300 per review for standard new construction projects (no local jurisdiction approval).
500 per review for DSA or HCAI / OSHPD projects.
Requirements :
Mandatory : Active and valid California Structural Engineer license.
Ability to work remotely from anywhere in the United States.
Strong attention to detail and familiarity with QA / QC processes.
Comfort with signing and sealing plans and calculations.
Work Environment :
Fully remote position with flexible scheduling.
Minimal meeting requirements, as most interactions with approving jurisdictions are handled by existing staff or the Engineer of Record.
Salary : $2,000 / month base + additional compensation per project beyond minimum requirements
How to Apply :
Please submit your resume and a copy of your active California Structural Engineer license number. Applications without a valid California Structural Engineer license will not be considered.
Join our team to provide critical QA / QC support for standardized structural engineering projects in a flexible, remote role!
This is a remote position.
