GENERAL SUMMARY
The successful candidate will be a well-rounded instructor responsible for teaching face-to-face courses in 3D Design, with the potential to teach online and in-person courses 2D Design, Drawing, Art Appreciation, and Graphic Design.
Duties and Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES
The instructional assignment will include studio-based courses in 3D Design, emphasizing hands-on learning and 3D fabrication techniques. The successful candidate should be able to teach 3D Design face-to-face.
In addition to conducting classes, responsibilities include :
- Class preparation, student evaluation, program-level assessment, and advising.
- Participation in department exhibitions, student showcases, and design competitions.
- Use of Open Educational Resources (OER) in courses.
- Attendance at department meetings and prompt responses to emails from students and supervisors (within two business days).
- Engagement in curriculum development, assessment, creating supply lists, and some decision-making within the department.
- Maintaining professional ethics and standards appropriate to the position
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Education : (Minimum / Required)
A master’s degree or higher in art or industrial design.Also accepted : Master’s degree in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in fine arts, visual art, applied art, drawing, printmaking, painting, sculpture, photography, art practices, integrated arts, or industrial designCandidates who meet CCD’s Tested Professional Experience requirements will also be considered : A bachelor’s degree in art or industrial design plus local or national recognition in exhibitions, artistic contributions, publications, conference presentations, curriculum development, or extended employment as a practitioner.Experience : (required / minimum)
Experience working with Latinx, African American, Native American, and other racially / ethnically minoritized students in the classroom.Understanding of historical patterns of exclusion in higher education and strategies for supporting diverse student success.Demonstrated experience with culturally responsive teaching in design and a willingness to refine instructional practices to improve equity in the classroom.Knowledge / Skills / Abilities : (required / minimum)
Strong background in 3D Design, Digital Fabrication, and / or Industrial Design.Demonstrated ability to teach design principles and prototyping to a diverse student population.Experience incorporating active learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technology-based instructional methods.Ability to create and develop curriculum and work collaboratively within a shared governance environment.Experience : (preferred)
Experience with interactive / digital product design, physical product design, material science, or human-centered design approaches.Familiarity with sustainability practices in design and digital fabrication.Industry experience with manufacturing, prototyping, or commercial design applications.Experience teaching at a community college.Commitment to Diversity
