Position Overview
The Regional Director of Tax is a senior leader within our firm’s tax organization, responsible for setting direction, driving execution, and supporting the success of multiple tax offices within a designated region. This individual plays a key role in advancing our firm’s strategic priorities, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring exceptional client service across all levels of the tax team.
This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in tax, proven experience managing complex engagements, and a passion for mentoring and developing high-performing teams. The Regional Director will guide office leaders, uphold service standards, and contribute meaningfully to firmwide initiatives and operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple tax offices, ensuring alignment with firm values, goals, and service standards with some travel as needed.
- Provide technical oversight on complex tax issues and high-value client engagements
- Develop and implement regional strategies in coordination with firmwide leadership
- Integrate professionals fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented culture across tax teams
- Serve as a coach and resource to office leaders and team members
- Contribute to firm initiatives including process improvement, technology adoption, and talent development
- Maintain and build strong client relationships by delivering proactive, value-driven tax guidance
- Balance quality and efficiency of work throughout the team.
- Identify opportunities to revise processes and expand services to clients
- Cultivate new client relationships through referrals and networking
- Stay current on technical matters through training and self-study
- Maintain Tax Budget
- Conduct regular meetings with office staff and disseminate pertinent company information
- Provide conflict resolution for internal and external complaints or issues
- Review staff work and provide guidance as needed
- Responsible for client contact and planning
- Represent clients with IRS, State or local tax compliance issues.
- Apply knowledge of GAAP and client financial statements to tax preparation
- Identify and suggest resolutions for technically advanced tax issues
- Deliver concise and accurate work products in written and oral form
- Demonstrate advanced computer literacy with relevant software programs
- Perform complex technical research and prepare research memos,
- Retain and apply knowledge from past engagements
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients through ongoing communication and exceptional service
- 800 billable hours at 90+% realization
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
Master’s degree in accounting or taxation preferredMinimum of ten years’ tax experienceCPA or EA certificate requiredExpert in 1040 preparation and review, being able to provide complex tax planningExpert in accounting principles for $100mm revenue or smaller passthrough entitiesSpecializes in several industriesCan make AJEs, RJEs, FJEs, and STJEs based on logic without prior year or supervisionCan set up a tax return on all software from scratch and apply automation for the next yearCan teach others complex tax returns and the procedures to fully prepare a tax returnCan review complex tax returns and portions of a larger complex projectCan prepare a moderate tax return with no errorsCan manage a full client book while onboarding additional clientsCan have strategic tax conversations with clientsCan run an entire practice or location with no supervisionCan lead multiple office leaders to common goalsCan lead classes and training on tax or software subjectsCan be the deciding say on tax issues when there is a conflict between preparersCan ensure all tax returns in one location are flowing through the officeExpert on EFIN, E-filing, signing, IRS Cir 230, and all other processes for the tax industryKnows all aspects of the paperless tax industry from start to finishCan replicate a working organization from one location to the nextUnderstands technology, the advantages of AI, and can implement better solutionsCan change policies and procedures to better fit the business and changes in the industryCan influence people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and improve the organizationCan emulate and enforce the company culture and values at all levelsCan strategize and plan the direction of the firm one, three, five, and ten years outCan disseminate information and delegate tasks without hesitationStrong knowledge of GAAP and tax regulationsStrong understanding of tax regulations at the federal, state, and local levelsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficient in relevant software programsStrong attention to detail and analytical skillsAbility to work overtime as neededAbility to work effectively in a team environmentDesire to always be learning and contributingYour Well-Being Matters
