Job Summary

Performs a variety of laboratory analyses and tests on received specimens to provide accurate and timely clinical information for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This role is essential for ensuring the overall quality, efficiency, and safety of the laboratory's operations.

Essential Functions

Laboratory Analysis & Procedures :

Performs a wide range of laboratory examinations and tests, which may include specialized or experimental procedures.

Adheres to established testing procedures, policies, and quality assurance guidelines.

Prepares reagents, maintains an adequate supply of materials, and manages inventory to ensure efficient operations and reduce waste.

Demonstrates proficiency in the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment, documenting all quality control and corrective actions.

Quality & Safety :

Maintains a safe work environment by following all safety protocols for handling biohazardous, chemical, and mechanical hazards.

Assists with the review and revision of procedures and documentation related to accreditation and regulatory requirements (e.g., CAP, TJC, OSHA).

Problem-Solving & Communication :

Exercises clinical judgment to assess priorities and troubleshoot issues with test systems.

Communicates effectively and in real-time with leadership and colleagues regarding any issues or concerns that may affect patient care or departmental operations.

Contacts specialists or hotlines as necessary to resolve technical issues or arrange for equipment service.

Training & Development :

Participates in the laboratory's competency assessment program as required.

May assist with the training and competency assessment of new or junior staff.

Engages in continuous professional development and participates in staff meetings, task forces, or projects to support departmental changes and improvements.

Physical Requirements

Works in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment with exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, and other potential hazards.

The role may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting light to moderately heavy loads (up to 50 lbs.).

Qualifications

Education : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.

Certification / License : Must be an ASCP-registered Medical Technologist (MT) or equivalent, as determined by the Professional Director.

Experience : A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of relevant experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting is required.
