Primary Purpose
In the role of Investor Relations Manager for Sempra, you will be a key figure in articulating our company’s financial narrative. Provides key financial data that assists in maintaining a fair and maximum valuation of the company's publicly traded securities, helping minimize cost of capital, and increase profitability. Proactively monitors the financial community and keeps senior management informed regarding the market's perception of the company, current shareholder composition, and events significant to the electric and natural gas industry. Fulfills the role as one of the company's financial spokespeople and developing talking points for management related to important company issues and presents the company narrative to the financial community and employee groups.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicates with the financial community on a broad range of topics, including company strategy, clarification of financial outcomes (10Q, 10K, earnings materials), press releases, and other public documents via phone calls, emails, investor relations roadshows, and sell-side conferences. Actively engages in daily communication with external and internal contacts to cultivate outstanding long-term relationships. Responds to inquiries from investors and security analysts in a timely manner. Ensures that the company's goals and strategies are well communicated. Identifies significant upside and downside factors and events. Proactively analyzes and comprehends all facets of the company's operations while keeping up-to-date with current events.
- Creates formal presentations for the Analyst Conference and Earnings calls, in partnership with company management, which senior management presents to the financial community. Develops comprehensive business unit presentations to effectively communicate the company narrative to the financial community. Supports company-wide efforts for marketing materials and other public, investor-oriented communications on activities surrounding company issues.
- Gathers data and intelligence from the financial community and informs management of their concerns, positive and / or negative perceptions, and any industry trends possibly impacting the company. Monitors stock market activity for Sempra and its peer companies, supplying management with competitive intelligence from the monitoring of public information regarding these peers. Works with outside stock surveillance consultants to constantly monitor institutional shareholder composition. Provides communications and recommendations to current shareholders and future prospects based on the results of analysis.
- Manages department staff to ensure department goals and objectives are implemented and achieved. Secures and allocates resources to successfully accomplish department objectives and optimize the level of service and team performance. Coaches, mentors, and develops staff while fostering a spirit of teamwork and unity. Establishes performance plans for team. Trains, monitors, and manages performance of employees, providing feedback several times per year, in compliance with company policy.
- Responsible for developing and monitoring the Investor Relations department budget including quarterly analysis and outlook projections. Manages the staff who monitors contracts and vendor relationships. Leads work with procurement and legal groups regarding contract negotiation.
- Supports shareholder services function and acts as back-up to the Shareholder Services Manager in monitoring and managing transfer agent services, shares outstanding, proxy statement, dividend payments,and stock options.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.Master's Degree in Business or Finance is preferred.Experience
A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in business, finance, accounting, or a related field is required.Experience in financial reporting and knowledge of Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations is preferred.Experience in financial markets is also preferred.Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.Skills and Abilities
Advanced written communication skills are required to effectively translate the company's goals and strategies into clear, understandable messages.Advanced verbal communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with security analysts and investors, ensuring a clear understanding of the company's objectives and strategies.A solid understanding of finance and accounting theories, concepts, and financial markets is required. Familiarity with the company's financial statements and knowledge of where to seek guidance is essential.Licenses and Certifications
Holding a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred.
