About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Cognos Administrator to join a leading client’s enterprise data and analytics team. This role is focused on managing, optimizing, and supporting Cognos environments to ensure seamless reporting and analytics delivery across the organization.
As the Cognos Administrator, you will take ownership of platform administration, including installation, configuration, upgrades, performance tuning, and security management. You will work closely with developers, IT operations, and business stakeholders to ensure a stable, secure, and scalable BI environment that supports mission-critical decision-making.
This is a multi-year consulting engagement ideal for a detail-oriented, technically proficient professional who excels in troubleshooting, platform optimization, and enterprise system administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Platform Administration : Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Cognos BI and TM1 environments to ensure high availability and stability.
- Security Management : Design and implement Cognos security, manage user roles, access permissions, and enforce compliance standards.
- Performance Optimization : Monitor and tune Cognos environments, apply best practices, and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Environment Management : Support and maintain production and non-production environments, applying patches, fix packs, and system updates.
- System Monitoring & Troubleshooting : Analyze Cognos, system, and server logs, resolve incidents, and handle planned / unplanned outages.
- Collaboration : Work closely with developers, IT operations, and business teams to ensure smooth delivery of BI solutions.
- Disaster Recovery : Define and execute disaster recovery testing to ensure platform resilience.
- Documentation & Training : Create detailed technical documentation, provide user guides, and train stakeholders on new features and configurations.
- Support & Incident Management : Respond to service tickets, provide on-call support, and deliver timely issue resolution.
- Infrastructure Knowledge : Leverage understanding of Windows system administration, networking, certificates, and security protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.10+ years of experience administering and managing Cognos environments, with deep expertise in installation, configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting.Proven experience with Cognos TM1 and BI (v11.2 or higher) for enterprise-scale deployments.Familiarity with Cognos modeling and report development is preferred.Strong background in data warehouse concepts , relational databases, and advanced SQL for analysis and debugging.Technical Competencies :
Expertise in Cognos system administration , including user and role management, security setup, and platform monitoring.Skilled in log analysis, system / server troubleshooting, and performance optimization .Experience implementing disaster recovery strategies and handling outages, upgrades, and patches.Knowledge of Windows administration, networking fundamentals, ports, firewalls, and certificates .Experience applying Cognos best practices for performance, architecture, and scaling.Certifications in Cognos, BI platforms, or relevant technologies are a plus.Soft Skills :
