Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations.
Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.
Our goal is to self-identify operations and maintenance issues long before our clients realize a repair is needed and take a thoughtful approach to using their resources, structuring processes, and providing the best client service and use of university resources. Purpose
To perform journey level work in maintaining, repairing and installing plumbing systems that transport water, steam, natural and laboratory gasses, sewer, storm and drain water, chilled water, vacuum systems and related equipment and distribution systems.
Responsibilities
Required Qualifications
High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a journey level plumber. Licensed as a Journey Level Plumber from the State of Texas Board of Plumbing Examiners or able to achieve this level of licensure within 180 days. License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment. Demonstrated excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited apprenticeship program or technical school. More than three years experience as a journey level plumber. Four years industrial plumbing experience related to the functions listed. Licensed as a Master Plumber in the State of Texas. Licensed as a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester. Licensed as a Customer Service Inspector. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Experience in more than one craft or trade. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated stable work history. Working knowledge of computerized systems. Ability to read and understand technical manuals and blueprints related to trade. Ability to write reports summarizing work activities. Successful completion of the Leader Development Program.

Employment Eligibility :

Retirement Plan Eligibility :
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
