Motor Equipment Operator III-PW Bridge Maintenance Operations
The Motor Equipment Operator III-PW Bridge Maintenance Operations will perform the following duties :
- Repair and maintains City bridges, culverts, and over / underpasses.
- Performs bridge maintenance operations and associated work including replacing expansion joints and overlaying asphalt approaches.
- Complete maintenance and repair of concrete spalls on bridges and sidewalks and steel preservation along abutments and I-beams.
- Perform sand blasting and chipping to prepare surface areas for maintenance and paintings.
- Maintain slope and embankment erosion control measures.
- Installs and maintains guardrails, handrails, impact attenuators, and performs miscellaneous carpentry work to provide adequate safety of structures.
- Installs and maintains roadway pavement markings on bridge decks.
- Installs and maintains associated highway traffic signs on bridges and approaches.
- Maintains and repairs navigation lights on bridge structures.
- Maintains inventory of material and supplies.
- Uses computers and software applications to complete work orders, daily time sheets, and access employee Self Services and Benefits.
- Operate multi-purpose equipment with complex controls. Service and make minor repairs to equipment.
- Supervises workers as assigned. Functions as crew leader in supervising workers and overseeing work activities at site or in absence of supervisor.
- Must possess a valid Virginia or North Carolina Commercial Driver's License.
- Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.
- Position is ALPHA I and is required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, snow, hurricanes, etc.) and / or in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies.
VRS Contribution : All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
CDL Hiring Bonus - Newly hired employees with a valid Class A CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment :
