Community Programs Coordinator

Positions supervised : Direct Support Professionals (DSP), Community Program Volunteers, and Interns

DEFINITION :

The Community Program Coordinator is responsible for the Group Social Recreation (GSR) and the Do-It Leisure (DIL) programs and assists Director of Community Services with overseeing daily operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centered services. Key responsibilities include supporting client intake and assessments, developing and reviewing Individual Service Plans (ISPs), and supervising and training staff to help clients meet their goals. Through the Do-It Leisure (DIL) program, the coordinator organizes inclusive recreational and social activities—such as out-of-town excursions, dances, craft workshops, and special events like karaoke, BINGO, and movie nights—designed to enhance participants’ quality of life through meaningful social engagement and access to community experiences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assist with daily oversight of DSPs, community program staff, and other assigned community-based services.
  • Assist with reviewing referrals, determining appropriate program placement, and assigning clients to DSPs.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate monthly activities for clients, including group outings, recreational opportunities, workshops, dances, and social events.
  • Assist with marketing upcoming events to clients, families, and the community.
  • Create, edit, and distribute event flyers and the “Do-It Leisure” newsletters to highlight upcoming program activities and opportunities.
  • Manage and contribute to social media platforms to promote events, share updates, and build community engagement.
  • Coordinate program contracts, transportation needs, and scheduling of community facilities.
  • Maintain a small caseload of clients

Additional Duties

  • Maintains a small caseload of clients to maximize billable time and ensure ongoing, person-centered support in alignment with program objectives.
  • Assist with recruiting, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Assist in developing budgets and monitor expenditures to remain within established guidelines.
  • Assist with compiling and maintaining timely and accurate fiscal, personnel, and program records.
  • Act as liaison between Work Training Center clients, families, caregivers, and external agencies.
  • Represent the organization positively with community partners and in public education forums.
  • Keep leadership informed of issues, challenges, and significant developments, taking corrective action when necessary.

  • Regularly required to use hands; reach with hands and arms; and see and hear and communicate with sufficient acuity to successfully perform all aspects of the job.  The employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, twist, bend, lift, and use hands / arms.
  • Must be able to demonstrate manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, perform simple grasping and fine motor tasks..

  • QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

  • Minimum two years of experience supervising or delivering programs for persons with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience planning and coordinating activities, events, or community programs.
  • Knowledge of personnel management, staff coaching, and program development.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, budgeting, and basic math / reporting skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, and program databases.
  • Highly motivated, team-oriented, and able to represent Work Training Center in a positive, professional manner.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, overnight trips, or holidays.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as required.
  • PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS :

  • Valid CA Driver’s License and clear DMV driving record.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates or ability to obtain within two months of employment.
  • A post offer, pre-employment fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and / or FBI
  • Must be able to pass drug screening, medical exam and negative TB screening.
  • It is recommended that staff be inoculated for Hepatitis B
  • Ability to obtain Class B license within 6 months of hire (preferred)
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Monday-Friday, some Weekends and Evenings as needed
