Position Summary
The EHS manager is responsible for all compliance and leadership of Environmental Health and Safety activities. The position will lead and coach all Health, Safety & Environmental initiatives for the Fair Oaks Foods designated location and reports to Operations Leadership. The role will manage and track EHS concerns to resolution and provide status reports. Organize and lead safety meetings and activities. Develop, track, and maintain all EHS training programs.
Responsibilities
- Plans, implements, communicates, and monitors safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations. Reviews and responds to OSHA inquiries with support of local leadership.
- Maintain and review accuracy of OSHA 300 log for assigned facility
- Audits various safety program elements of effectiveness; schedules and performs safety inspections; identifies issues and develops corrective action plans. Maintains all EHS recordkeeping.
- Supervises, controls, and monitors fire prevention and firefighting activities.
- Investigates all near miss reports, accidents and injuries; to include recommendations on corrective actions as well as tracking and coordinating reporting activities.
- Develops, implements, monitors safety training programs designed to instruct employees in general safe work practices plus specific instruction about hazards unique to any job assignment; provides training for new employees. Manages the programs to ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of federal and state OSHA regulations and web sites; maintains up-to-date knowledge of safety codes and regulations; distributes and / or posts new or revised safety standards that affect the company.
- Identifies potential safety hazards designated location; reports hazards and recommendations for eliminating / reducing to management.
- Coordinates with facility leadership on design and construction of new equipment, facilities, and work methods to ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations.
- Encourages employees and supervisors to report all unsafe conditions immediately and schedules or coordinates repairs as soon as possible.Supports employees and supervisors in incident management and reporting.
- Lead, develop, implement and maintain Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) programs for use in identifying possible safety hazards and developing effective safety guidelines, developing training programs, guiding incident investigations, evaluating ergonomics, and identifying cost savings opportunities
- Evaluate waste streams related to inefficient practices to identify opportunities for waste reduction.
- Evaluate wastewater reports for noncompliance and work with appropriate departments to establish reasonable corrective actions to improve performance and reduce wastewater costs.
- Manage air emissions compliance regulations / standards, tracks result and develops recommendations and mitigation if applicable.
- Maintain Fair Oaks Foods Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
- Provide assistance and guidance to management in preparation for, and completion of, internal self-assessments and third-party audits
- Represent company during federal, state and local safety inspections for designated location, as needed
- Promote safety awareness throughout both facilities by using established programs in behavioral safety, hazard recognition and accountability
- Monitor industry best practice, bring relevant developments to leadership and if adopted help drive development, communication and implementation
- Responsible for communicating with regulatory agencies as needed to comply with applicable environmental health and safety regulations
- Chairs' local Safety Committee meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum of three to six years related experience; bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S.) strongly preferred.Food manufacturing knowledge preferredKnowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance standards. Work is performed in an office environment and plant floor. The conditions may require cold and warm environments to -10 to +100 degrees. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
