Job Description
An Environmental Analyst in the Metal Section performs laboratory-based testing and analysis of metals in environmental samples using advanced analytical instruments. The role emphasizes data accuracy, adherence to EPA protocols, and upholding quality assurance standards.
1. Analytical Chemistry Expertise
- Metal analysis in environmental matrices (water, soil, sludge, etc.)
- Sample digestion (EPA 200.7, 200.8, 245.1, etc.)
- Data validation and result interpretation
2. Instrumentation Skills
Direct experience or training with :
ICP-OES / ICP-MS – trace metal quantificationGFAA / CVAAS / CVAFS – sensitive detection of specific metals (e.g., mercury)Colorimetric methods – spectrophotometric metal testingBlock digestors – wet chemistry sample prep following EPA methods3. Quality Assurance / Control
QA / QC procedures in compliance with EPA and NELAC guidelinesCalibration, blanks, LCS, spikes, duplicatesProficiency in conducting or participating in internal auditsAdherence to SOPs4. Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
