Job Description

Hybrid or Remote : Reporting location depends on where work can be performed and collaboration needs. If residing within 50 miles of Austin, Warren, or Sunnyvale, expected to report to the location three times a week. Otherwise, no reporting required. This role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

About the Role

Seeking a highly skilled Graphic Designer with 7–10 years of experience, expertise in design systems, Figma, and designing for software, web, and mobile products. Responsible for developing and maintaining the GM Design System, creating reusable components, documentation, and ensuring consistency, accessibility, and quality across digital platforms.

You should have a strong affinity for modernism, systems thinking, and scalable, well-documented design, with a focus on clarity, structure, and functionality. Collaboration with engineers for high-fidelity implementation is essential.

Work cross-functionally with teams across vehicle OS, web, and mobile platforms to maintain a unified design system that supports platform-specific needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain reusable components within the GM Design System.
  • Manage shared libraries in Figma, including UI kits, tokens, and documentation.
  • Create guidance and documentation pages for Figma UI kits.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Participate in grooming and sprint planning to align system updates with development timelines.
  • Develop documentation, guidelines, and specs for system components.
  • Ensure accessibility, scalability, and consistency across products.
  • Work with product designers, engineers, and brand teams to unify the design system.
  • Conduct audits and propose system improvements based on feedback.
  • Promote best practices in systems design, tooling, and workflows.
  • Support and mentor a small team of 2–3 designers.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years in digital product design, with a focus on design systems.
  • Expertise in Figma, including auto layout, variants, tokens, library management.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and vector-based design.
  • Experience designing for web, mobile, and software with responsive UI patterns.
  • Ability to document and communicate design decisions clearly.
  • Experience working with front-end developers in agile environments.
  • Strong knowledge of typography, visual hierarchy, and UI best practices.
  • Experience with versioning, naming conventions, and scalable workflows.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG), prototyping tools, and design tokens.
  • Prototyping click-throughs.

  • Compensation

  • Salary range : $177,000 - $270,900, based on experience and location.
  • Bonus potential based on company and individual performance.
