Position Summary

A Lab Coordinator (Clinical Research) is being sought to assist the Division of Women’s Mental Health in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This is grant funded position is needed to support the processing and management of biological samples collected for an NIH-funded study.

Working under the direction of the Clinical Research Manager and Principal Investigator, the Lab Coordinator will be responsible for collecting, processing, storing, and shipping biological specimens—such as blood, saliva, placenta, and other tissues—strictly in accordance with study protocols and all applicable federal, institutional, and sponsor-specific guidelines. Sample processing may include dissection, centrifugation, aliquoting, and preparation of specimens for advanced analyses such as epigenetics, histology, and proteomics.

The Lab Coordinator will also support the day-to-day functioning of the lab by preparing reagents and solutions, calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment, managing inventory, and ordering supplies and chemicals necessary for study implementation. The candidate will track biospecimens using designated systems, maintain records of equipment and temperature monitoring, and ensure lab compliance with safety and regulatory standards. In addition to lab duties, the coordinator may conduct medical chart reviews, abstract clinical data from hospital and clinic systems, and interface with ancillary departments such as medical records and IT services.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, process, label, store, and ship biological specimens (e.g., blood, saliva, placenta) in accordance with protocol requirement.
  • Perform lab techniques such as centrifugation, dissection, aliquoting, and preparation for histology, proteomics, and epigenetic analysis.
  • Track specimens using study-specific databases or systems (e.g., REDCap) and maintain sample inventory.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents and solutions and ensure proper setup and calibration of lab equipment.
  • Monitor and document lab equipment performance, including freezers, centrifuges, and incubators.
  • Order and track laboratory supplies and assist with procurement for research protocol.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned / requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience
  • Phlebotomy certificate.
  • Experience in a patient care setting and clinical research experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Complete proficiency in written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Incumbent must be self-directed and able to make independent decision within the parameters of all federal, state, institutional and departmental guidelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written / oral communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Master’s or another advanced degree may substitute in part for experience.
