Metering Technician
Performs the installation, removal, testing, calibration, repair and maintenance of electronic metering devices and associated automated data collection endpoints. Reads utility meters and records power usage to facilitate the City's billing process. Incumbents in this classification are subject to on-call phone rotation based on the on-call schedule.

Minimum qualifications :
Metering Technician, Trainee :
High School diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of full-time related industrial experience performing work consistent with this classification. OR Any combination of experience, training and / or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Metering Technician :
Requires a technical & conceptual understanding of utility metering and AMR systems as a process control. Education or equivalent training typically gained through completion of high school or equivalent (GED) program and a certification or vocational training program, plus one (1) to three (3) years of directly related industrial experience.
Metering Technician, Senior :
A comprehensive background in Electric and Water utility metering and AMR systems is strongly desired. Education or equivalent training typically gained through completion of high school or equivalent (GED) program and a certification or vocational training program, plus three (3) to five (5) years of directly related industrial experience.
Certification from a vocational training program or an Associate's degree for an accredited college or university with major coursework in electrical or electronic technology may be substituted for the one (1) year of experience requirement.

Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.
Physical Demands and Working Environment :
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Temperature extremes from weather and engines; live electric lines; pressurized water lines; occasional dogs and insects, high voltage substations, and work for elevated platforms.
Hiring Ranges : Selected candidates will be placed at the appropriate level based on qualifications and experience.
Metering Technician Trainee : $21.26 - $26.63, hourly.
Metering Technician : $23.44 - $29.36, hourly.
Senior Metering Technician : $27.13 - $33.98, hourly.
