TITLE : Director of Communications

CLASSIFICATION : Full-time / Exempt / Benefit Eligible SUPERVISOR : Chief Communications Officer

ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY : The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri is a regional disaster and hunger-relief network that brings together community resources to share tens of millions of pounds of food with neighbors each year. Our highly-collaborative team believes that empowerment, education and partnerships are key to getting food into the hands of those who need it most. With the help of 145 partner agencies, nearly 200 school partners and more than ten thousand volunteers annually, our day-to-day efforts help feed approximately 100,000 neighbors each month across our 32-county area. POSITION SUMMARY : The Director of Communications supports integrated communications efforts across all aspects of the organization and leads the development of content that raises awareness of the nutritional needs of our community; encourages engagement in The Food Bank's mission; and supports the wellbeing of our neighbors in need. The Director of Communication acts as a brand ambassador that strengthens the reputation of The Food Bank and manages digital communication efforts that create a cohesive brand experience and engage the community at large.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications or a related field, with 3+ years applicable experience
  • Exceptional written communication, editing skills, grammar and knowledge of AP Style
  • Demonstrated professional success in the field of marketing and communication; portfolio of prior work preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and one or more digital marketing platforms preferred
  • Comfortable with website processes and maintenance
  • Experience coordinating the social media presence of a business or organization
  • Possess strong visual storytelling skills in video, photography and design
  • Time management and organization skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Media relations experience preferred
  • Sensitivity to the needs of low-income people

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES : Under the guidance of the Chief Communications Officer

  • Develop, coordinate and implement digital marketing materials including online appeals, campaigns, promos, announcements and more.
  • Produce and publish recurring publications (e.g. enewsletters) including content and creative.
  • Serves on The Food Bank's leadership team to help guide and implement the organization's strategic priorities.
  • Works collaboratively in the production of educational materials for donors and volunteers, including reports, appeals, brochures and other collateral pieces.
  • Support marketing efforts for The Food Bank's special events, including collaboration with media partners and other third parties, to raise awareness and engagement.
  • Coordinate production of videos and other visual / audio marketing and communications efforts
  • Maintain working relationships with media partners and write and distribute press releases; act as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Monitor brand compliance by staff, agencies and third-party events.
  • Work with content experts to ensure data and message accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide copywriting, design, print and publication advice and support for day-to-day communication needs of The Food Bank team members.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and related group and organizational reporting.

    Salary Range : $43,000 - $50,000
