Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY :
Performs high complexity medical laboratory tests, procedures and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
needed; supports comparison and analysis of new tests and instruments. Notifies immediate supervisory personnel of equipment / instrument issues and calls Service regarding issues.
11. Assists in reviewing, revising and writing laboratory procedures.
12. Uses quality improvement processes, programs or outcomes to help improve department operations; assists with LEAN projects.
13. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
14. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
15. Performs service excellence must-haves to achieve an excellent patient / customer experience.
16. Basic knowledge in phlebotomy and phlebotomy procedures and ability to perform phlebotomy if required by laboratory facility.
17. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
18. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Knowledge of clinical laboratory equipment / instrumentation, test procedures and standards.
2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
3. Skill in the use and preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
4. Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply such concepts to practical situations.
5. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
6. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and engage critical thinking skills.
7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science which includes clinical rotation as part of the program or Bachelors in Science in a related field and an additional year of MT / MLS clinical rotation required or meets the requirements for and is eligible for or has acquired the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
certification as an MLS or Technologist in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology or Microbiology as outlined on the ASCP website. AMT and ISCLT or equivalent are acceptable.
