The Role :

gWorks is on the lookout for an innovative Senior Manager of Software Engineering to join our dynamic team. In this crucial leadership role, you will be at the helm of our engineering department, steering the development and implementation of cloud-based software solutions that empower local governments across the United States. You will play a key role in ensuring that our software not only meets but exceeds the expectations of our clients and aligns with gWorks' mission to enhance community governance through technology.

As a Senior Manager of Engineering, you will blend technical prowess with leadership acumen to drive the engineering team forward. This role offers the unique opportunity to impact the lives of millions by contributing to the development of technology that supports smarter local government operations.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Cloud Technology Proficiency : Lead the adoption and optimization of cloud technologies, collaborating with the Infrastructure and Data teams to ensure scalability, security, and innovation.
  • Team Management : Cultivate a culture of excellence and continuous improvement, supporting the professional growth and development of the engineering team.
  • Code Review Leadership : Actively review and approve pull requests, ensuring adherence to high-quality standards and alignment with project objectives. Promote a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous feedback within the engineering team through mentoring on best code review practices, technical excellence, and problem-solving strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with Product, Sales, and Customer Success departments to streamline product development and delivery.
  • Technical Expertise : Maintain cutting-edge knowledge of AI / ML and cloud technologies to guide the team in best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Resource Allocation : Oversee the efficient allocation of engineering resources and budget to maximize productivity and innovation.
  • Vendor Relationship Management : Build and nurture relationships with key technology vendors to bolster our cloud solution offerings.

What Youll Bring

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Certifications in cloud technologies are a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership roles overseeing engineering teams, with exposure to cloud-based software development.
  • Familiarity with cloud architectures and technologies, such as AWS, and an understanding of AI / ML concepts.
  • Experience in agile software development and project management.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate team members.
  • Experience in GovTech or similar sectors is advantageous

    Improvements in team productivity, product quality, project delivery, innovation, employee engagement, and stakeholder satisfaction will measure your success.

    Where Youll Work

  • Omaha-based? You'll follow our hybrid model : work remotely with in-office collaboration on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Remote? Youll be fully supported to work from anywhere in the U.S. We prioritize connected, accountable teams no matter where you're located
  • Members of the sales team should expect to attend 4-6 conferences in their territory each year during event season
  • Travel & Onsite Connection

    This role is primarily remote, but in most cases, a mandatory part of our hiring process includes meeting a member of our team in person. Most often, that will be at our Omaha office, though it may occasionally take place at an offsite location. Additionally, the first three days of onboarding and orientation are held in Omaha to help you get started with the right support and connections. We reimburse all travel expenses within our company guidelines, and after onboarding, you can expect to visit Omaha quarterly.
