About the Department and / or College
Computer Science spans the range from theory to practice to cutting-edge inventions. The need for computing professionals and executives has substantially grown over years. Almost every major challenge facing our world is turning to computing for a solution, from conquering disease to eliminating hunger, from improving education to protecting the environment. Exciting possibilities exist for students with degrees in computer science and software and security engineering. Students work with distinguished faculty in applying their math and science skills, gaining valuable hands-on experience, and working on research projects funded by federal, state, and industrial organizations. By learning advanced problem-solving methods, Texas Tech computer science students are prepared to solve the world's challenges in this dynamic and rapidly expanding field.
Major / Essential Functions
Join us in revolutionizing education by using AI as both a theory and a tool. The recent success of AI presents a critical challenge for education : what should we teach the next generation? Logic-based reasoning, a cornerstone of modern science and engineering, remains a weak point in generative AI. We believe logical reasoning must be central to future education.
Logic naturally integrates STEM subjects, AI, and Computer Science across all educational levels-from elementary to graduate school-creating an ideal environment for fostering logical reasoning. Building on this foundation, we will :
- Develop an innovative logic-based curriculum for STEM subjects across grades.
- Study its impact on students' learning and teachers' teaching.
- Utilize logic-structured STEM knowledge, data of student learning, and generative AI to design unprecedented intelligent systems that support students' learning.
Our research is supported by multi-million-dollar funding from prestigious programs such as the National Science Foundation's Discovery Research PreK-12 (DRK-12) program and the U.S. Department of Education's Education Innovation and Research (EIR) program.
This work holds immense academic value and industrial applications, opening doors to rich and promising career opportunities. Join us in shaping the future of education and advancing the frontiers of AI.
Required Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Learning Science, or related field. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a researcher. Should have a record of activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of research.
Preferred Qualifications
Degrees specializing in areas such as logic-based AI, databases, logic, programming languages, or software engineering are welcome. For the latter, experience with rigorous application to computer science and AI education is a plus.
Safety Information
Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all TTU employees.
