Our Video Distribution Engineer builds and maintains cutting-edge compression and digital distribution platforms for one of the premier national broadcasters.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBLITIES

Gain and maintain knowledge of major satellite and fiber distribution systems and the vendors that supply them. Work various shifts as part of a 24 / 7 coverage team and obtain the ability to translate business and operation requirements into technical requirements.

  • Acts as Tier 1 support for all on-air broadcast systems
  • Follows standard operating procedures and documentation to support the operations team in a 24 / 7 environment
  • Builds and maintains FOX’s compression & transport infrastructure
  • Conducts lab, performance, and system tests and prototype efforts that can continually evolveFOX’s architecture and infrastructure
  • Supports the Media Control Center in day-to-day operations and assists users with technical issues or concerns
  • Partners with the Engineering and Standards & Advanced Technology teams to develop groundbreaking technology solutions for challenging business issues
  • Collaborates with engineering teams, operations teams, and third-party vendors to develop long-term strategy, product development, and implementation road map
  • Knows data is critical to making informed business decisions and uses it to understand and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your already amazing team's performance
  • Analyzes dashboards and constantly optimizes system security and testing, minimizing bugs and making it to final products

    • WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Maintain and troubleshoot compressed and uncompressed workflows
  • MPEG / JPEG decoding, encoding, transcoding, processing, multiplexing, encryption, decryption, uplink / downlink processes, master control, etc.
  • Build strong knowledge of SCTE insertion systems, media contribution / distribution
  • Have familiarity with on-prem test and measurement platforms - acquire the ability to work effectively across different projects and teams
  • Advanced maintenance of Satellite and linear distribution, architecture / deploying, monitoring, alerting, and / or data analysis
  • Lead new projects, collaborate with various teams, test and validation of new systems
  • Conducting lab, performance and system tests and prototype efforts that can continually evolve FOX’s architecture and infrastructure of the SMPTE 2110 suite of standards
  • Expert knowledge of SDI video transport and familiar with new video codecs and compression . SRT, RTP, Zixi, HLS etc.
  • Strong understanding of networking principles, including TCP / IP, OSI model, subnetting, and VLANs. Experience with basic switch configuration and identifying network addressing issues

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical experience in Engineering, IT, Computer Science or related Tech field
  • Advanced knowledge of video compression & codecs, such as SMPTE ST-2110, JPEGXS, HEVC
  • Knowledge and experience with emerging technologies such as 4K High Dynamic Range, and HDR10+ is a plus
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as, Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE)
  • Basic Linux Admin skills, such as system configuration, scripting, and command line proficiency
  • Solid understanding of windows-based operating systems. Experience installing, configuring, and supporting windows operating systems

    foxtechPursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate / range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $39.75-57.70 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical / dental / vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
