The Food Service Equipment Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial foodservice equipment including cooking, refrigeration, warewashing, and preparation equipment. This role ensures equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications and customer expectations. The Technician represents the company in the field and provides a high level of customer service while maintaining professional and technical standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of commercial foodservice equipment.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on customer equipment to minimize downtime.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration system issues using tools, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Document all service activities, including work performed, parts used, and recommendations for future service.
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, and inventory in a safe and organized manner.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
- Communicate effectively with customers, providing technical explanations and service recommendations in a clear, professional manner.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests as required.
- Attend training sessions and maintain up-to-date certifications as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial foodservice equipment, appliance repair, HVAC, or a related field.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- EPA Section 608 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
- Ability to work in varying conditions, including hot kitchens, cold storage areas, and outdoor environments.
- Field-based role with daily travel to customer sites.
- Exposure to commercial kitchens, mechanical equipment, and cleaning chemicals.
- Standard work schedule with availability for overtime and on-call assignments as needed.
